Input from the paediatric pulm community

Dear PATS members

As the leaders of the American Thoracic Society/European Respiratory Society Infant & Preschool Pulmonary Function Testing Working Group and the European Respiratory Society Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Physiology Working Group, we are undertaking a new project to assess the needs of the paediatric pulmonology/respirology community in both clinical practice and clinical research. There is a lack of published guidelines for paediatric pulmonary function testing in clinical practice, particularly testing outside of standard spirometry. Our goal is to create a document that addresses testing, laboratory setup and training, reference equation choice, and testing interpretation considerations that are specific to paediatrics.

The first step in this project is to understand the needs of the global paediatric pulmonology/respirology community. As such, we have created a short (less than 5 minute) survey regarding the need for improved guidelines and what types of testing are most important for inclusion.

Attached you will find a printed copy of the survey and the proposed email text. The survey can also be found at:

Thank you for completing this survey.
